These multipurpose bags are handwoven by a small Zapotec community in the southern highlands of Mexico, specifically, in the Valley of Oaxaca. The technique used is a backstrap loom, which essentially consists of sticks, rope, and a strap that is worn around the weaver’s waist. Their traditional technique is what sets them apart, as they weave intricate patterns with raised threads that have a beautifully textured feel.
